The objective of this initiative is to provide strategic recommendations to government entities and financial stakeholders to strengthen Quebec’s venture capital (VC) financing chain and address any identified gaps. To achieve this, Montréal InVivo partnered with the Centre of Expertise of Réseau Capital, prominent organization with extensive knowledge of venture capital data across Quebec and Canada. The Centre’s direct connections with the venture capital community enable it to conduct in-depth studies on VC and private equity trends in Quebec

ANALYSIS OF THE EVOLUTION OF THE PRIVATE VENTURE CAPITAL INDUSTRY IN QUEBEC AND ITS FUNDING SOURCES

Following the bursting of the tech bubble in 2003 and the poor performance of public and quasi-public funds, this study examines the outcomes of a shift toward a private venture capital industry. It highlights efforts to adopt North American practices and diversify funding sources. The findings reveal notable progress in terms of growth and diversification but underscore a persistent reliance on public funding, indicating some fragility in the ecosystem.
