
Charles Émond
Executive Vice-president Québec and Global Planning
Charles Émond has been Executive Vice-President, Québec and Global Strategic Planning, since February 2019. In this role, he is responsible for implementing CDPQ’s investment strategy in Québec. This strategy aims to strengthen Québec’s economy and foster the development of companies both in Québec and internationally, while generating the returns necessary for depositors’ needs. He also pilots the overall strategic planning exercise of CDPQ’s global activities in collaboration with the Executive Committee. In addition to sitting on that committee, he is a member of the Investment-Risk Committee.
Before joining CDPQ, Mr. Émond spent 18 years at Scotiabank, notably as Head of Québec’s Investment Banking group, then as Global Head, Investment Banking and Head of Canadian Corporate Banking. He was responsible for Mergers and Acquisitions and Equity Capital Market operations on a global level, as well as Corporate Banking for Canadian corporations, for which he was based in Toronto. Mr. Émond also acted as Executive Vice-President Finance at Scotiabank where he was responsible for Strategic Transactions, Economics, Investor Relations and Finances for the Global Banking and Markets division.
He is recognized for achievements in several areas, including business development, growth and international expansion, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions as well as private and public financings, locally and on an international scale. He is a graduate of HEC Montréal and is a CPA. He also holds the designation of CBV.
CONNECTIONS
Until the beginning of 2019, Mr. Émond was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jarislowsky Fraser, a major asset management firm, which was acquired by Scotiabank in a transaction he led in 2018. He was a member of the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation’s Healing More Better campaign cabinet. Over the years, he also supported several causes, acting as honourary president for events related to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Montreal, La Maison de Soins Palliatifs de Laval and Le Gala du Mont-Royal du CHU Sainte-Justine.
