Charles Chevrette

National Co-Chair, McMillan

Charles Chevrette is the Office Management Partner of
McMillan’s Montreal office and practices business law. Mr.
Chevrette is a Québec market leader in private equity, venture
capital, mergers and acquisitions, as well as in sophisticated
cross border transactions.
Mr. Chevrette is particularly active in technology related
investments and M&As (including IT and telecom) and in the
financial services sector.
Over the years, Mr. Chevrette has been involved in the creation
of numerous funds and investment companies both in Canada
and elsewhere. He regularly acts on behalf of major institutional
investors and assists them in connection with large and medium
equity investments, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions
(including LBOs and MBOs).

Charles has also been involved in a very large number of major
technology financings and buy out transactions, acting for private
equity venture capital funds, universities and growth companies.
Mr. Chevrette acts as strategic corporate counsel for many
Québec based companies, and as Canadian counsel for a
number of multinationals and international investors doing
business in Canada.
Mr. Chevrette is the co-author of a book entitled, Québec
Business Corporation Act: Commentary and Analysis , which is
published in both the French and English languages and
provides for a comparative analysis between Québec corporate
law and the corporate law across of Canadian jurisdiction.

Mr. Chevrette is also the author of many articles on various business
law topics, and regularly gives conferences about corporate law,
private equity and M&A.
Before joining McMillan, Mr. Chevrette co-founded his own
private equity investment firm, and served, at various times, as
Assistant Chief of Staff and Political Advisor to each of the
Premier of Québec and the Leader of the Opposition in the
House of Commons (Ottawa).
Not only is Mr. Chevrette a market leader in private equity ,
venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, but he is also very
knowledgeable about the business climate in the Province of
Québec and has first hand experience with the various
institutional players and their requirements. His public policy
expertise is sought by many in connection with business and
financial operations involving governmental entities and provides
for value added when navigating complex business transactions
involving Québec financial institutions.
